A WIRRAL restaurant has been given the worst possible food hygiene rating following an inspection from Wirral Council.

625 on Banks Road in West Kirby was given a zero-star score after an inspection on September 8.

The family-run restaurant which describes itself as, “serving classical and seasonal dishes with a modern twist”, had the worst rating called “urgent improvement necessary” in two areas according the Food Standards Agency website.

One of the areas, “hygiene food handling” found that the restaurant had issues with hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling, and storage.

Urgent improvement was also needed in the “management of food safety”. This involves system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.

Despite scoring the lowest ratings in two area, the report rated the “standards of the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building” to be “good” giving it a rating of four in that specific area.

This involves the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene.

The Globe contacted the restaurant for a comment.
