PEOPLE gathered to show their support for the ‘Enough is Enough’ campaign in Ellesmere Port over the weekend.

Enough is Enough coordinated protests against the cost-of-living crisis in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Leeds, Cardiff, Newcastle, Hull, Norwich, Nottingham, Portsmouth and Plymouth on Saturday, October 1.

The campaign fights for a real pay rise, to slash energy bills, end food poverty, provide decent homes for all and tax the rich.

The group of Ellesmere Port protesters met at The People’s Pantry and made their way down to Civic Square, outside the Civic Hall.

Around 200 people showed up to the rally to show their support for the campaign.

Jimmy Shannon, Whitby Groves Labour Candidate, told the Globe: “I am still buzzing from Saturday to be honest.

“I was made up with the amount of people that showed up. It’s probably the biggest protest Ellesmere Port has seen since the poll tax protest around 30 years ago.

“The fire brigade even came past and honked their horn to show their support.”

Jimmy Shannon, organiser of the rally and one of the founders of Ellesmere Port Collective Jem Borsbury, and owners of the People’s Pantry foodbank Elaine Collins and Tracey Anelay-Jones all delivered speeches on the day.

At the rally a statement was also read on behalf of Ellesmere Port MP Justin Madders, who fully backs the campaign.

Left Unity UK Principal speaker, Felicity Dowling, also spoke at the rally.

Jimmy added: “Speakers had people in tears. Their stories were raw and hard-hitting.

“People needed to hear what is going on. It was sad to hear but it stoked up the feeling that enough is enough.”
