WHEN it comes to curries the choice is endless – korma, tikka masala and dhansak or there’s jalfrezi, vindaloo and madras.

Maybe you prefer a Thai curry instead and have to choose between red, green or yellow.

This week it's all about curry as the UK celebrates 24 years of National Curry Week.

It was founded in 1998 by the late journalist Peter Grove who had fallen in love with curry and wanted to raise awareness and appreciation for Indian cuisine while collecting money for charity.

Over the years, chefs across the country have marked the week of celebrations with a double decker bus tour in 2003 serving dishes cooked by celebrity chef Cyrus Todiwala, a dress made entirely of poppadums by fashion designer Lisa Myers and the highest tower of poppodums was created in India in 2012 - a record-breaking 1.72 metres tall!

Chicken tikka masala is Britain’s favourite curry dish – grilled chunks of chicken in a spiced sauce, served with rice and naan bread and a side of poppadoms – but which is Wirral's favourite curry?

Earlier this year, in our Best of 2022 competition, you voted Risa Spica in New Ferry as the town's top venue and they took the Best Curry 2022 crown.

The restaurant serves "great food at a great price" and received more than 700 votes.

There were six other curry restaurants that made the shortlist for Wirral's Best Curry.

Why not give one of them a try during National Curry Week, which runs between Monday, October 3 and Sunday, October 9.
