THE co-owner of a Wirral coffee shop and eatery that opened less than a month ago says business has gone from 'strength to strength'.

Social 114, situated on Victoria Road in New Brighton, was opened on August 25 by owners Robert Jones and fiancee Victoria Thay, who makes the food.

Rob told the Globe: "It's the first cafe I've opened. I've worked in the industry for a while, but this is the first one me and Victoria have opened.

"The menu is really limited to six options and nothing's fried, apart from the egg on top.

"We also wanted it to be a social space, where people can drink coffee, sit by themselves or bring a group".

The menu includes smoked salmon and scrambled egg on sour dough, peanut butter and banana on sourdough with Agar Syrup.

Rob, who was born and bred in New Brighton, not too far from where the cafe is situated, continued: "We also do fresh pastries each morning and fresh cakes, supplied by two different suppliers, on rotation. We use Kookaburra Bakehouse and Teacake Cakes.

"We're looking to do artisan pizzas towards the end of the week.

"We're also licensed, so in the evening we've got a Belgian lager on tap and a few nice wines. The sommelier (wine steward) we work with only gets his wines from small family-run vineyards, so there's nothing you can get from supermarket shelves or anything like that."

Rob studied fashion illustration at the College of Fashion in London, which is where he met Victoria.

He said: "We've always talked about running a cafe, and then this place came available and we thought 'we need to do it now or we'll never do it.

"There was apprehension, obviously, opening a new business in the climate after the pandemic, but it seems to have been going from strength to strength. Everyone's loved it, all been really kind and supportive."

"We have a mix of customers. We get regulars that come each morning and have their favourite seat, people that are passing. Since we launched our food menu, that's brought a lot more footfall.

"Through social media we've grown quite quickly. We have nearly 600 followers already and that's from 16 posts. It's been a nice surprise.

"Last weekend, we got really busy; the Saturday was and Sunday was even busier.

"I'm not complaining, it's a nice problem to be too busy."
