A HOTEL in Ellesmere Port have re-named their bar and restaurant after a RAF squadron from Chester.

The Woodcote Hotel in Hooton decided to rename their bar and restaurant for their introductory post-Covid relaunch.

Due to losing a lot of their original team, owners Chip and Tina Cobb took on the job of re-staffing.

Their new team consists of a blend of new faces and original members.

On their selection of a new name for their bar and restaurant, Chip and Tina had an enormous amount of input from their local community and friends.

Speaking to the Globe, Chip said: "We studied the Hooton area and its history and after much thought, decided to relaunch the bar and restaurant as The 610 Squadron Bar and Grill."

The 610 was an RAF squadron from Chester that was transferred to the Hooton Airfield to train for The Second World War, utilizing meteor jets, hurricanes, and spitfires.

They served and fought in The Battle of Britain in October 1940, losing 92 lives.

Chip added: "Our name is a tribute to the brave members of the 610 and a ‘thank you’ for their dedicated service."

On Thursday, October, 6, the hotel has planned an event to celebrate the squadron. The theme of the event is 1940’s style, with members of the home guard constitution and friends helping them make the night one to remember.

The team is offering a free welcome drink as you are guided through the “Battle Field”.

Free canapes will be served whilst viewing the gallery of History.

Tina said: "I can’t say too much or I will spoil all the fun, so put on your 1940’s gear and head on down to see for yourself."

The event begins at 5.00pm and is free to attend. To RSVP you can call the hotel on 0151 328 5730 or email info@thewoodcote.co.uk.
