WIRRAL is set to celebrate its first-ever Pride event over the August bank holiday weekend.

Taking place on Saturday, August 27, the historic first-time event will take place in and around The Floral Pavilion in New Brighton.

The event will start with a muster at 10.30am with talks from members of the local LGBTQ+ community followed by a one-minute silence to remember those lost.

Founder of Pride At The Seaside, Jamie Lee Carter, told the Globe: “It’s a family-friendly day out where we will discuss topics like why we have pride, our past, where we are at the moment as a community, and what we need to change for our future.”

The main event is set to finish at 5pm with an after party starting at 7pm at the Bar & Lounge in the New Brighton Hotel where there will be live drag acts.

Speaking of the importance of the event, Jamie said: “I think over the past couple of years we have faced a lot of isolation.

“We’ve also seen quite a lot of hate crimes in the area, so I think now is the perfect time for us to come together and remember our past.

Wirral Globe:

“We need events like Pride to help shape our future and stand united and proud with our community.

“I think we are very different over here we have our own identity on this side of the water, and I think it’s great that we can celebrate that with our community.

“I’m beyond excited to see where this event leads to, and we already have lots of ideas with what we want to do going forward for next year’s event.”
