FOUR men, including a husband and his friends, are cycling from Leeds to Liverpool in support of his wife who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Kirsty Guy, from Ellesmere Port, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 when she was pregnant with her youngest child Hallie.

The 33-year-old had chemotherapy whilst she was pregnant and gave birth to Hallie prematurely.

After giving birth, Kirsty continued with chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy and also had a mastectomy.

She then lived cancer free for two years.

In April 2022, doctors discovered that Kirsty’s previous cancer cells had spread and she was given the devastating news her cancer was terminal.

Shaun, along with some of his friends, have decided to cycle from Leeds to Liverpool through the Leeds-Liverpool canal.

He will take on the 127-mile cycle with three of his close friends, Matthew Kelly, Gary Firth and Jay Moseley.

Speaking to the Globe, Shaun said: "We thought to do the cycle because if Kirsty is going through pain, why shouldn't we go through it as well.

"The reason for cycling through the Leeds-Liverpool canal is because me and my friends are from Leeds and now I live in Ellesmere Port which isn't too far from Liverpool."

The group will set off at 6am from Bridgewater Place in Leeds on Thursday August, 25 to show their support for Kirsty.

Shaun added: "We're going to take it steady because none of us are cyclists."

The group is planning to stop overnight in Chorley and will continue their cycle to Liverpool on Friday morning.

Since the diagnosis, a GoFundMe page, set up by one of Kirsty’s childhood friend’s Rebecca Blundell, has raised more than £10,000.

Shaun said: "The donations have come from close family and friends, people we've not spoken to since school and even lots of people we don't even know.

"A massive thank you to everyone who has taken their time to donate in these really challenging times."
