A BROMBOROUGH mum founded her own “magic” nappy cream after her daughters suffered from severe nappy rash.

Julie Ashworth, 56, first began her business venture in 1991 when she could not find any products to soothe her first daughter Lauren’s nappy rash.

After trying and testing shop-bought products and even prescriptions from the doctors, which only made matters worse, Julie decided to take things into her own hands.

Julie told the Globe: “I decided to use my experience as an aromatherapist and make my own.

“I set to my kitchen, mixed my chemical-free aromatherapy oils, shea butter, rosewater, aloe, and a few old wives tales in a non-touch spray bottle.”

After perfecting her concoction, Julie described the results as “instant relief” for her baby daughter.

She said: “It worked. She slept for the first time in days, and it cleared up in no time.

“We used to call it mummy’s magic spray and I would always say ‘mummy makes it better’ when we’d spray it on her, and the name and words just stuck.”

Then in 2010, Julie’s magic spray was put to the test again.

She said: “Our little surprise Ellen arrived, and Mummy’s Magic was made up again.

“She was like her big sister and allergic to everything, even milk.

“I used it every nappy chance and Ellen never once got a rash; chickenpox was a breeze too it helped the itch, and she was scar free.”

As well as using the product to treat her daughters, Julie made up Mummy’s Magic for family and friends.

After the success Julie had with the product, she contacted a baby buyer at a well-known supermarket who loved the product.

Julie said: “She came back to me with a plan to get it into production and put me in touch with people to help and we began clinical trials.

“Mummy’s Magic has been dermatologically tested for sensitive skin and the bottle of magic is vegan, plant-based, and has a mixture of nature’s ingredients so there are no chemicals.”

Word of mouth soon spread and Julie’s Instagram @mummysmagicltd quickly had an interest as she began to get noticed by celebrities including Danielle Lloyd and social media star Melissa Jade.

As well as celebrity endorsements, Mummy’s Magic was awarded Best Vegan Nappy Spray at the 2021 Mother and Baby Awards and was one of Dragon’s Den Theo Paphitis SBS winners.
