LOCAL litter pickers have shared their frustration after certain locations in Wirral are being targeted by fly tippers.

Old furniture, clothing, and general rubbish are among items that are being continually dumped on Old Hall Road. Bromborough.

Litter picker and Wirral Wombles member, Sue Milli, told the Globe she and other Wombles have reported the issue to Wirral Council on numerous occasions but are yet to see the change they want.

She said: “Fly tipping is an eye sore. It is so frustrating to regularly do a litter pick and see someone has just dumped this amount of rubbish.

“There is no pride in our local area so even more people drop their litter.

“Sometimes it makes me want to stop wombling and just leave people to their filth but it's very hard to walk past and not pick up or report it when you are a decent person.”

Sue says she first reported the fly tipping issue in early July before reporting it for a second time on July 27.

She said: “The council claimed it would be dealt with by August 19, but I checked again recently and it says it won’t be sorted until August 23. I despair.

“I am doing my bit by letting the council know it’s there, but they are taking too long to deal with it.”

The targeted area is between Old Hall Road running from the A41 to the roundabout and down the hill to Stadium Road.

Sue said: “Fly tippers fairly regularly use the layby near the top of the hill.

"We did something proactive around some dangerous waste that had been dumped near this location earlier this year.

“I know of two other people in the Wombles group who have reported it too.

“We all feel a camera at that point would possibly deter tipping or enable legal prosecution.”

A spokesperson for Wirral Council said: “The fly tipping will be logged for Environmental Enforcement to inspect for evidence to an offender.

“We will always seek to prosecute anyone who fly tips on public land.

"It will also be reported immediately to Wirral’s Street Cleansing Contractor Biffa to remove the waste.”
