POLICE say they have managed to crack down on “numerous groups" of youths after a dispersal zone was put into place across Wirral this week.

The dispersal order, which was issued due to antisocial behaviour involving young people, was put in place at 2pm on Tuesday, August 9 and covers New Ferry, Bebington and Port Sunlight.

Since the order police say they have seen a reduction in anti-social behaviour and have managed to disperse gangs of youths from New Ferry Park, Mayer Park and The Oval Sports Centre.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: “Over the past 48 hours our officers have patrolled the dispersal zone area in New Ferry and Bebington.

“We have deployed on quad bikes and foot patrol to key locations, and we have seen a reduction in anti-social behaviour over this period.

“We will continue to focus our resources.”

The anti-social behaviour relates to groups of youths who have been involved in criminal damage offences that police say have caused harassment, alarm, and distress to residents and businesses in the community.

The order runs until 2pm on Thursday, August 11 when it will be further reviewed.
