PUBLIC consultation is underway on a planned measure to help tackle anti-social behaviour on part of a Wirral housing estate.

A Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) is being proposed for part of the Woodchurch and Wirral Council is consulting businesses and residents.

A council statement read: "This consultation seeks people's views for the proposed PSPO to address complaints of anti-social behaviour involving (but not limited to) intimidating groups, misuse of wheeled vehicles, drug misuse, littering, and alcohol related disorder including criminal damage and violent offences.

"This activity has previously resulted in damage as well as causing nuisance, annoyance and disruption to members of the public, business owners and their employees."

The PSPO (see area edged red on the plan) would cover parts of Pemberton Road, Ferny Brow Road, Grass Wood Road and Hoole Road and incorporates and/or extends to The Meadow, Cheverton Close, Huddleston Close as well as the land at Selbourne Close which is located in between Cheverton Close and Huddleston Close.

A PSPO is a provision created by the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing act 2014.

It is intended to deal with particular nuisances or problems in a defined area that are considered to be detrimental to the local community’s quality of life.

It can do this by imposing conditions on the use of that area which will apply to everyone so that the majority of people can enjoy the public space.

The Council has the power to implement PSPOs with the purpose of stopping individuals or groups committing anti-social behaviour in public spaces.

It would be an offence to, without reasonable excuse, do anything that the person is prohibited from doing by a Public Spaces Protection Order.

A person guilty of such an offence is liable to a fine on prosecution (currently a maximum of £1,000).

Authorised officers can issue a Fixed Penalty Notice (£100) if appropriate.
