TWO people and a dog were rescued after getting stuck waist-deep in mud off Egremont Promenade.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service were called to the scene just after 7pm on Wednesday (August 10) following reports of people stuck in the mud.

Crews were alerted at 7.09pm and on scene at 7.16pm. Two fire engines attended as well as the fire service rescue boat, Marine Fire One.

On arrival crews found two people and a dog stuck in the mud close to the slipway on Manor Lane.

Marine Fire One deployed a rescue swimmer with sled and two land-based firefighters were deployed in water kit and mud boots.

Both people and the dog were rescued from the mud and led to safety on the promenade.

They were examined at the scene by paramedics but did not require further treatment.

Fire crews left the scene at 7.53pm.
