MUCH-LOVED music and craft festival Camp Good Life has announced that this year’s event will be its last.

Taking place from September 16 to 18 at the Hawarden Estate in Flintshire, North Wales, the festival is just a few miles from Chester and a short hop over the border from Wirral.

The event is certainly planning to go out with a bang and has joined with Caught by the River and Heavenly Recordings to present a line-up of quality and eclecticism that is unrivalled for a festival of its size.

Among the artists confirmed is former Pale Fountains and Shack frontman, Michael Head & the Red Elastic Band; multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Laura Groves - now signed to Bella Union - and Ivor Novello award-winning songwriter Simon Aldred, aka Cherry Ghost.

Writers and authors include Saint Etienne’s pop connoisseur Bob Stanley and The Guardian’s Jude Rogers who will speak of the beautiful hold music has on our lives.

A spread of chefs will also take to the festival’s giant open firepit to prepare and cook beautiful dishes to be shared by the audience.

As always, the event’s craft tent will feature makers ranging from print and pottery to clothing and blacksmithing.

“It won’t surprise you to learn that it’s hard putting on a biggish festival,” said organiser Tara Gladstone. “It’s particularly hard to make money from one.

“Some people succeed but many more don’t and we fall into the latter group. Truth be told, we have never managed to make Camp Good Life or The Good Life Experience make a profit. It’s been fun, life enhancing even; but behind the scenes, it’s been hard.

“But there’s a lot of exciting news to come... The future is bright.”

Organisers are looking at hosting “smaller, more intimate and community-based events” in 2023 and have confirmed they’ll be staging six long weekends in two locations on Hawarden Estate.

Tara added: “Each of these will focus on slightly different things but they are all true to our founding aim, to help you to live The Good Life.”
