TRIBUTES have been paid to a 'much-missed' Wirral drummer and former pub landlord who has died after a short illness.

Carl McCulloch, 62, from Wallasey, passed away last Tuesday (August 2).

The father-of-one was son of the late Jim and Celia McCulloch and father to Vicki.

His funeral will be held at Landican Crematorium next Tuesday (August 16) at 11am.

Carl, who would celebrated his 63rd birthday next month, ran McCulloch’s Pub in the early 80s in New Brighton (now Stanley’s Cask) and later the Sportsman Club in Seacombe.

As the son of the late local businessman and bodybuilder Jim McCulloch (founder of the IBBU), Carl was also involved in teaching at McCulloch’s Gym in Rake Lane, Wallasey, which is still run by his Step Mum, Lyn McCulloch.

He was also well known as the drummer in the rock band Dante who were prevalent in the early 1980s, appearing on Welsh and Merseyside Radio Stations as well as many high-profile gigs such as Rock against Drugs, Riverside Rock and regulars at the Golden Guinea amongst other venues around Merseyside and UK.

His life-long friends and fellow band members Brin Phillips and Steve Lawson said: "Carl was not only known as one of the best drummers in Wallasey, with a unique sense of humour, but was extremely well-informed and knowledgeable on so many levels, as well as a very talented and natural sportsman.

"He will be truly missed by those who knew him.

"He was a doting father to his daughter Vicki who survives him".
