FIREFIGHTERS attended a fire on the fourth floor of high-rise flats in Wallasey.

On Saturday, July 30 at 4.44pm crews were alerted that a fire had broken out in unoccupied high-rise flats on Union Street, Egremont.

Four fire engines and an aerial appliance arrived on the scene at 4.50pm.

On arrival, crews found smoke issuing from the fourth floor of the 12-storey building.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service (MFRS) said the blaze had started from a rubbish fire.

A spokesperson for MFRS said: “MFRS was called to Union Street, Egremont, on Saturday 30th July, following reports of a fire in unoccupied high rise flats.

“Crews were alerted at 4.44pm and on scene at 4.50pm. Four fire engines attended as well as an aerial appliance.

“On arrival crews found smoke issuing from the fourth floor of the 12-storey building.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus gained entry to the premises and used a hose reel jet to extinguish a rubbish fire.

“The fire had been extinguished by 5.14pm.

“Crews searched the remainder of the property for further signs of fire but all floors were clear.

“Crews left the scene at 6.07pm.”
