The son of former Carlisle United star Rory Delap is celebrating after helping England's Under-19s become European champions.

Striker Liam Delap was involved as Ian Foster's side came from behind to beat Israel to claim the title in Slovakia.

Manchester City striker Delap, 19, came off the bench in extra-time as England claimed a 3-1 victory.

And the forward had a strong hand in England's clinching third goal as his shot was parried into the path of Aaron Ramsey, who made no mistake.

That followed goals by Callum Doyle and Carney Chukwuemeka for the Young Lions.

Delap had previously made his mark on the tournament with a winning goal against Israel in the group stages.

The son of 1990s United favourite Rory showed his delight at England's success on social media after Friday's final...

Head coach Foster, speaking on the England website, said of the triumph: "I’m just delighted, the players have worked really, really hard and it wasn’t an easy game against tough opposition.

“I’m just thrilled to win the trophy and the boys are just delighted to be European champions.

“We should be so proud of them.

“It takes time to get that spirit and togetherness which they’ve got. It helps you cope with anything and the amount of support they give each other, the camaraderie in the group, it’s probably the most together that I’ve seen a group.”
