DOM Joly, the multi-award winning creator of Trigger Happy TV and author of the incredibly popular travel books, The Dark Tourist, Scary Monsters And Super Creeps and The Hezbollah Hiking Club, is taking to the road to continue his first UK tour since 2011.

In Dom Joly’s Holiday Snaps - Travel and Comedy In The Danger Zone, the funnyman will recall some of the scariest, strangest and most downright dangerous places he’s visited.

From North Korea through the Congo and Syria to Chernobyl, he’s visited some of the most unusual places on the planet. Joly famously attended school with Osama Bin Laden and armed with a trusty Powerpoint, fans can expect his holiday snaps to provide comedy and a sense of danger.

“I’ve got this collection of weird holiday snaps and I know there’s that cliché that ‘nobody wants to see anybody else’s holiday snaps’,” said Dom.

“Well, my holiday snaps are really good. And I’ve got some really good stories with them.”

“The theme is travel. The three things I’ll be showing will be my own holiday snaps, holiday snaps from TV shows and holiday snaps from my books.

“So, for instance, when we did Trigger Happy TV, we went to Switzerland and found out our runner couldn’t ski and then I got arrested for impersonating a yeti.

“There’s another snap of me at Chernobyl, thinking: ‘Should I eat the vegetables here or not?’ So when I put all of them together, I’ve got a seriously great holiday show,” he said.

Joly, who was born in Beirut, later attended the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, and speaks Arabic, Czech, and French.

He created Trigger Happy TV in 2000 and it ran for three series on Channel 4 making him famous for such iconic scenes as answering a gigantic novelty mobile phone and shouting at the top of his voice into it.

“We were mid-way through the tour when Covid brought everything to a standstill, so I’m delighted that I’m finally able to get back on the road,” he added.

Dom Joly appears at Port Sunlight’s Gladstone Theatre on Friday, May 27.
