WIRRAL residents have joined together to create crochet post box toppers in a tribute to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The nine toppers can be found spread across different areas of Wallasey Village and will be on display throughout summer.

The royal creations have been handmade by members of Wallasey Village in Bloom, Wallasey Girl Guides, and resident crocheters Julie Walker and Sandra Birch.

Wirral Globe:

Wallasey Village in Bloom member Valerie Hemmingway, who helped lead the project, told the Globe: “We have done various post box toppers in the past as well as knitted Remembrance Day poppies and the response has always been lovely.

Wirral Globe:

“There are several of us in the group who enjoy knitting and crocheting so we decided in December that we would do something for the jubilee.”

Valarie said work on the toppers started in February after community members shared design ideas and knitting patterns.

Wirral Globe:

She said: “We are a community group, and we are well supported by our community. It’s our way of discreetly giving back.

“We just enjoy what we are doing.”

Since the toppers have been on display, Valerie said the response has been nothing but positive.

Wirral Globe:

She added: “The number of people who have come by and thanked us when they’ve seen us putting them out has been lovely.

“That’s why it’s important what we do because it creates an amazing sense of community in the village and people appreciate your work.

Wirral Globe:

“We’ve all been so pleased with the reaction and that people are enjoying them.”
