BIRKENHEAD has been ranked as having one of the longest surgery waiting times in the UK according to new data.

New research has revealed the top 10 UK locations where residents are waiting the longest time for general surgery at NHS Trust Hospitals and Birkenhead features, with average waiting times currently around 61 weeks.

Health experts at FROM MARS have revealed the UK locations with the longest hospital waiting times, as well the cities with the highest number of hospitals and how many of those feature in Newsweek’s UK top 50, and the areas with the highest number of sexual health clinics.

Birkenhead, which has a population of 325,264, ranked in fourth place as having the longest waiting times with a total of 0.31 hospitals per 100,000 people.

With 0.92 sexual health clinics per 100,000 people as well, Birkenhead scored a health score of 1.53 out of 10.

The research also shows that Liverpool, with a population of 864,122, had 0.69 hospitals per 100,000 people with an average wait for general surgery at NHS trust hospital also standing at 61 weeks.

Sexual health clinics in Liverpool averaged 0.93 per 100,000 people giving it a health score of 2.50 out of 10.

With three of the UK’s top 50 hospitals, Leeds ranks as the best UK city for hospital access.

With a total of nine hospitals serving a population just shy of half a million, Leeds offers almost two hospitals per 100,000 people.

With 1.32 sexual health clinics per 100,000 people as well, Leeds offers some of the most accessible health services in the UK.
