A YOUNG couple are aiming to bring a traditional pub back to its former glory in St Helens.

After a five-week closure and an in-house revamp, The Millhouse was re-opened by Nicola Wilson and Aidan Gill on Thursday, May 12.

Aidan, who used to work in the Mill Lane kitchen in Sutton, thought it was the "perfect opportunity" once he heard that the previous owners were looking to vacate the premises.

Owning a handful of milkshake takeaway shops around St Helens, the 29-year-old thought he would take on the running of the pub as his "next project".

As the Heineken-owned Star Pubs and Bars venue has gone through a few managers over the past few years, the couple has spent a stressful few weeks getting the pub ready for opening, with the aim to bring it back as a vibrant community hub.

Aiming to make the venue more family-friendly, the Millhouse will have regular kid's entertainment as well as live music, quizzes, and other events.

This is in addition to their popular food menu, beer garden, and live sports on show.

Nicola, 32, from Dentons Green, said: "We have never run a pub before [...] but we thought it was the perfect opportunity once the prospect of it came about.

"It's been a stressful few weeks but we are really excited to get going in time for summer and the Jubilee events we have planned.

"On our opening weekend we had kid's entertainment and then the football on, so we turned over a lot more than we thought.

"We just hope we can get all of the customers back after being closed for so long, and make sure it's a really good pub for everyone."
