POLICE officers are taking part in a series of activities to raise awareness of the devastating effects of knife crime this week.
Formed as part of 'Operation Sceptre', officers across Merseyside will be more visible in communities and giving educational talks to people across the region.
In St Helens, this will involve school talks alongside partners at the Daniel Fox Foundation; who are the family members of the 29-year-old who was fatally stabbed in St Helens town centre.
Operation Sceptre comes just a day after a 23-year-old man was stabbed in the leg on Jubits Lane, Sutton.
The knife, which caused puncture wounds to the victim's leg, was recovered in a nearby wheelie bin.

The police's deployments and educational talks intend to stress the devastating consequences of knife crime for victims and their families, as well as for the families of the offenders and the wider community.
It is hoped that by raising awareness of knife crime among young people, this will reduce the number of people affected by this type of criminality.
Additionally, there will be officers patrolling the region in a Mobile Police Station which will give advice and information about the ills of knife crime to people in the community.
Quad patrols will also be in operation to look out for any weapons in open spaces and parks across the borough.
