A HOST of former professional footballers will take on Wirral Radio FC players in a charity match in memory of a young footballer who took his own life.

The game, at Ashville Football Club in Wallasey Village on Sunday May 29 is in aid of The Martin Gallier Project and Wirral Radio FC.

It is in memory of former Wirral Radio FC teammate Kieran Nye who died in 2019.

Wirral Radio manager, Adam Siddorn said: "The Martin Gallier Project is a Wirral based charity who specialise in suicide prevention so to raise money for such a fantastic charity in Kieran’s name is a very proud moment for all of us at the club.

"We miss our friend very much and it's wonderful to be able to celebrate his life with some real legends of Tranmere Rovers."

Former Tranmere men include, James Norwood, Gareth Roberts, Andy Robinson, Alan Mahon, Clint Hill, Scott Davies, Jason Price, Danny Holmes, Alex Hay, Mark Ellis, Danny Harrison, Alan Navarro, Otis Khan, Ged Brannan, Abdulai Baggie and former Tranmere Rovers captain Steve McNulty and more.

Rovers legendary player Dave Higgins and former manager Ronnie Moore will take charge of the Tranmere Rovers Legends XI whilst TRFC Radio’s Adam Siddorn will take charge of Wirral Radio FC.

Former Tranmere Rovers legend, Dave Higgins said: "We're looking forward to raising as much money as we can for the charities. It’ll be fantastic to be back at the game with some of my former teammates, too.

"It would be great if people come down and gave us their support, even if football isn’t really their thing, a donation could make a real difference to a fantastic local charity."

The match Kicks-Off at 2pm at Ashville Football Club, Wallasey Village and is £5 for Adults and £3 for Children which can be paid on the gate with all proceeds going to charity.

After the match, Ashville will host a fundraising evening in aid of The Martin Gallier Project with entertainment from local singer Jordan Edwards.

To raise further funds there will be raffle prizes and a charity auction with Liverpool, Everton and Tranmere Rovers having donated signed balls and shirts.
