TRANMERE Rovers captain and goalkeeper Scott Davies has been awarded the club’s PFA Community Award for 2022.

Throughout the season, Davies, who has been at Rovers since 2015 and announced his retirement in January 2022, has visited local schools for question and answers sessions with the pupils, attended the opening of the club’s new Beechwood Recreation Centre and participated in Tranmere Rovers in the Community sessions.

A spokesperson for Tranmere Rovers said: "During his time at the club the captain has been an ambassador in supporting the local community and was at the forefront of ensuring the player’s knew exactly what it meant to be a part of the club and the community.

"Every year he took part in the Super White Christmas campaign, visiting local schools to pick up and deliver their donations. He was heavily involved in the Club’s initiative to combat gambling and has been an advocate to the SWA2 campaign, encouraging and supporting our next generation of fans.

"As a thank you and recognition for not only his work this year but throughout his seven years at the Club, Scott has been awarded the 2022 PFA Community Champion Award."

Davies was invited to the Recreation Centre before the last home game of the season to receive his award and took part in a session with club sponsors Essar and Drumlanrig Primary School who were down from Scotland for their yearly visit to Rovers.

Davies said: “First and foremost I am proud to have captained this football club.

"The work Tranmere do, the community staff and the people behind the scenes is brilliant and that’s grown and grown.

"Tranmere has the community at the heart of everything they do and this is something I noticed from the minute I signed for the club.

"I’ve always been proud to see the club, players and fans come together and support those in need at crucial times during the year.

"If, as players we can take 30 minutes out of our day and it makes a difference to someone’s day, then we are doing our jobs.

"Like I said the club has grown massively in the community, you go anywhere in the Wirral now and people are talking about Tranmere and long may that continue."

Steve Williams, Manager of Tranmere Rovers in the Community, added: “Scott has been a fantastic ambassador for the community over the last seven years, he has always supported the work we have done and it’s never gone unnoticed by us as staff and those within the community.

"It is always great to see the players engaging with our programmes and interacting with the community, especially the younger ones as it means so much to them.”

"Everyone at Tranmere Rovers in the Community would like to thank Scott for all always supporting and promoting our work. It’s been a pleasure to work with him and we wish him all the best in the future.”
