VAUXHALL Motors beat Charnock Richard away from home on Saturday afternoon, Mick McGraa’s side responding to a defeat against table-topping Macclesfield with two brilliant performances.

Man of the match from the last time out, Jordan Deer, found himself on the bench with two other great forwards in the form of Harvey Sample and Michael Burkey. However, this had no say on the scoreline as The Motors were as efficient as ever in front of goal.

It was a relatively slow start to the game, a few comfortable saves being made by either goalkeeper as each team tried to get themselves in front. Striker Craig Cairns showcased his great ability to hold the ball up and bring his attacking teammates into the game once again.

The first real moment to note came in the form of a yellow card which was awarded to Joseph Heath who put in a two footed challenge in his aim to win the ball back. He succeeded to get the ball. However, the match officials deemed his challenge to be a free kick and a card was then brought out.

Heath was brought into defensive action again shortly after the card as he cleared a great pass which the hosts had sent across the face of goal.

This clearance proved to be vital as his side opened the scoreline with a goal through Ethan Gouldbourne. A great run from the halfway line saw the defender bring the ball late into the left hand side of the pitch before he nicely struck it past the Charnock Richard keeper from a tight angle.

Damien Eastham, on his second game for Vauxhall Motors, pulled out a magnificent save to keep his team in the lead. He got down well to save before a rebound hit him.

Cairns hasn’t really had the goalscoring impact he would’ve aimed for when signing for his new club, a few of his best moments has simply been his presence as his height enables him to bring others near him into play. However, he would score here as Haydn Cooper crossed the ball before he struck a volley sweetly near the front post.

McGraa’s side started the second half strongly and they were able to create a few good chances. However, they were unable to convert any as they continued to push for a third.

With half an hour left, the hosts made their first substitution of the game as Mark Woods replaced Jack Gooden.

It would be Vauxhalls that found the net following this change though, Ben Holmes scoring The Motors’ third of the afternoon. A free kick was struck perfectly leaving the keeper stranded, the ball sailing into the top right corner.

Something that Motors could probably do with improving is their discipline as they seem to be receiving a lot of cards as of late, a red card was dished out to Haydn Cooper for a bad tackle in this instance. Motors received a red last time out too.

As McGraa’s side led comfortably there was little action of the game left despite Eastham making a few great saves to keep his clean sheet. The most noteworthy moments as the clock ticked towards and past the 90 mark were a few more substitutions and cards, the game finishing with a 3-0 scoreline.
