FOLLOWING a plea from the Polskie Merseyside centre in Liverpool, pupils from a school in Wirral came together in their support of the humanitarian cause in Ukraine.
Pupils, parents, and staff from Wirral Grammar School for Girls railed together to donate essential items including baby clothes, sanitary products, toiletries, blankets, and school supplies for those in need in Ukraine.
A team of pupils, staff, and PTA collated the donations on Friday, March 4, which filled over two-thirds of the school hall.
Headteacher, Mrs Cogan, told the Globe: “As always, the girls and parents of Wirral Grammar School for Girls have stepped up to the mark in their support of this incredibly important humanitarian cause.
“The level of generosity shown has been astounding, and the way in which the pupils organised their efforts was remarkable.”
Staff and pupils pulled together to organise, pack and load the thousands of items into delivery vans, donated by Roberts Recycling, to transport the donations on the first leg of their journey to the Polish-Ukraine border.
Pupils also arranged a non-uniform day where they wore yellow and blue in solidarity with those experiencing the conflict in Ukraine.
Students also made and sold yellow and blue ribbons in support of the crisis.
The school raised a total of £2,820 over the course of their fundraising day which will be given to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
