My name is Sue Higginson and I’m the Principal of Wirral Met College. Education and training at Wirral Met dates all the way back to 1855, and while modern life has changed since then, our mission has remained the same: to support young people and adults to develop their careers, through high quality education and training. We are very proud of our rich history and heritage, and use this to support the college’s bright and ambitious future.

We understand that every student is unique, so our focus is to work with the individual to explore their dream career and then create a personal learning plan to help them succeed. As the largest college in Wirral, we offer a huge spectrum of career pathways including health and social care, art and design, engineering, science, construction, hospitality and culinary arts, public and uniformed services, plus many more.

We have five, career-led campuses and our multi-million pound award-winning campuses – Conway Park, Twelve Quays, Wirral Waters, Hamilton and The Oval – offer students access to industry standard, state-of-the-art facilities. Our team of specialist tutors are there to guide students from day one. In addition to having a personal tutor, we have a team of professional experts to support students every step of the way. This includes student advisers, pastoral support mentors, counsellors and additional learning support workers for students who have any specific learning needs.

Our programmes of study are designed to develop students’ skills, knowledge and professional behaviours as they work towards a specific career. In addition to gaining nationally recognised qualifications, students will have the opportunity to undertake work-based placements throughout the year, giving them the competitive edge.

Wirral Globe:

We work with hundreds of employers across a wide range of sectors so that we can offer our students the best in vocational education and training, and as a WorldSkills UK Centre of Excellence, we ensure our Programmes of Study are developed to meet employer needs and market demand.

We also work in partnership with the universities of Chester, Liverpool and UCLan to offer a wide range of degrees, teaching qualifications, and university level courses.

If you are aged 16-18, or 19-24 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), your study will be free. We go one step further in our commitment and offer students a guaranteed place at the college providing we can meet your individual support needs.

Young people and their families are welcome to visit the college and see our state-of-the-art facilities in person. Our next open day takes place Thursday 17 March, 4.30-7pm and you can register your place online at wmc.ac.uk/events.

I would be delighted to see you there and welcome you to one of our career-led campuses.

If you are ready to work hard and commit to developing your education and skills, then we are ready to help you succeed.

Sue Higginson,
Principal
