SPORTS fans are in for treat in 2022 as New Brighton Flora Pavilion hosts three star-studded shows during the first few months of the year.

First up on Friday, January 14 is a Liverpool Legends night featuring Phil Thompson and John Aldridge.

Amassing well in excess of 500 appearances between them, club captain Phil Thompson and prolific striker John Aldridge will discuss the games, dressing room and training ground stories, managers and fall outs with the night also including a candid question and answer session with compere, former Arsenal forward Perry Groves.

Following his successful spell with Liverpool, Aldridge moved to Spain with Real Sociedad before returning to England and joining Tranmere Rovers where he amassed 243 appearances between 1991 to 1998, becoming their player manager in 1996.

Aldridge was also part of Jack Charlton’s hugely successful Republic of Ireland side and played in two World Cups.

It’s been a tough time for cricket fans recently with England’s Ashes debacle down under grabbing the headlines and this is bound to be one of the many topics discussed by Test Match Special duo Jonathan Agnew and Phil Tufnell when they appear on Friday, February 11.

‘Tuffers’ was the bad boy of English cricket in the 1990s, known as The Cat because of his love of dressing-room naps and, rarely seen without a beer and a fag. But since retiring, he has carved out a successful TV career, appearing in I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, The Jump, Strictly Come Dancing and he was Matt Dawson’s opposing team captain in BBC’s long-running series, A Question of Sport.

The event is raising money for The Professional Cricketers’ Trust.

Finally on Tuesday, April 5, legendary England Rugby Captain and Masterchef winner, Phil Vickery will be talking about his life, career and his two great passions of rugby and food.
