TRANMERE Rovers’ fixture versus Hartlepool United on Wednesday, December 29 has been postponed.

After a number of postivie COVID-19 cases in Tranmere's squad, the club informed the EFL that it would be unable to fulfil the League Two fixture at Victoria Park Stadium this week.

It is the latest game across the country that has been postponed due to coronavirus and the rise of the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

Although the club stated they have worked hard to ensure they could fulfil all fixtures this season, the combination of injuries and positive covid cases have left the Rovers without a sufficient number of players available in order to fulfil the fixture.

In light of the increased transmission rate of the Omicron variant and the increasing number of matches postponed across the country, the EFL will now review the circumstances surrounding the postponement.

The board will also assist affected clubs throughout this challenging period, to help them mitigate against the risk of infection amongst players and staff, while ensuring their obligations to the EFL regulations are maintained.

A rearranged date for the Hartlepool fixture will be confirmed in due course.

Fans with tickets are asked to contact Hartlepool directly for details on refunds on 01429 272584.

Their ticket office is closed today but will be back open from 10am tomorrow.
