A TEENAGE scrambler motorbike rider is in a serious condition after being struck in a hit-and-run collision on Christmas Day.

The young rider was hit by a vehicle on Hoylake Road, Birkenhead at 12.45pm on Saturday afternoon (December 25).

Merseyside Police said the teenage rider was taken to hospital by air ambulance to receive treatment for serious injuries to his leg.

He is in a serious but stable condition.

Police have confirmed the driver failed to stop at the scene and an investigation is underway.

A police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for any witnesses, cctv and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation. 

“Hoylake Road, Ilchester Road and Stanley Road are currently closed while the incident is being dealt with, and drivers are advised to find an alternative route.

“Thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident.
