PUBLIC consultation on a future design guide for Birkenhead is taking place as ambitious plans for the town's regeneration get underway.

The aim is to establish "high-quality design standards so all new developments deliver excellent quality homes, offices and business premises".

A team of architects and urban designers has been commissioned by the authority to create the Birkenhead Design Guide.

To take part in the survey, go to https://haveyoursay.wirral.gov.uk/birkenhead-design-guide council's Have Your Say website. The online consultation ends this Sunday (December 12).

A spokesperson for the council said: "The Design Guide will shape the way the future Birkenhead will look and function as a place to live, work and visit in the future.

"It will provide guidance for future developments to ensure high quality streets, buildings and neighbourhoods for Birkenhead.

"It will cover topics like how we should be able to move around neighbourhoods, how infrastructure like waste or water management fits in, and how green spaces can be included.

"The guide will steer the future design of buildings and places such as green spaces and public areas in Birkenhead and developers will be expected to show how they have complied with the design guide when they submit their planning applications."

The organisation PLACED has run a series of public and community engagement activities as part of this process to collect people’s thoughts on neighbourhood and urban design to help shape the Birkenhead Design Guide, asking people to share their views during November and December 2021 – including through an online survey.

The spokesperson continued: "These activities will enable local people to contribute to the Design Guide and provide the design team with the information they need to make sure the Design Guide is suitable for Birkenhead."
