A 14-year-old boy from Heswall is organising a charity golf day for Macmillan Cancer support in memory of his grandad.

With support from his mum, Helen Webster, a Macmillan on the Wirral committee member, Zach came up with the idea from his love of golf.

After losing his grandad seven years ago, Zach helped his mum organise community events for Macmillan.

Helen told the Globe: “My dad received support from Macmillan at the end of his life and since then I got involved with the local committee we have on the Wirral.

“Zach has always helped me organise community events and one day came up with me with the idea of a charity golf day.”

Zach, who shared a love of golf with his grandad, began playing five years ago.

Wirral Globe:

“When Covid hit, we couldn’t run with the idea, but he brought it up again earlier this year and after speaking to our Macmillan group we all agreed it would be viable,” Helen said.

After posting about the event on social media, Helen said residents were keen to get involved.

She added: “The idea was really well received. We know there’s a lot of people who want to play but what we’re interested in now is sponsors to support the event.”

The Real Dairy Ice cream company, ACS Solicitors Bromborough , Fluid UK Ltd , and Bertram Burrows Accountants West Kirby are currently sponsoring the event.

The golf day is set to take place on April 8, 2022, at Heswall Golf Club.

Helen said: “It’s a family and friends’ event so anyone any age who enjoys golf and wants to come along is welcome and any money raised will stay within Cheshire and Merseyside to support our community.”
