The Met Office has predicted that areas of the North West could be hit with rain and sleet showers over the weekend.

The icy showers will continue over Saturday and Sunday evening and in some cases turn to snow.

The yellow weather warning is in force from 5.00pm this evening, 27 November, until 11.00am tomorrow.

Meteorologists warn of wet slippery surfaces on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths and suggest there could be injuries from slips and falls on ice.

A spokesperson from the Met Office said: “There is likely to be some icy stretches forming where snow is already lying over parts of the high ground of northern England and Scotland.

“There is a chance of some more general snow falling over the far north and northwest of Scotland during Sunday Monday and this may bring some local further small accumulations.”

The met office also warns that some roads and railways may be affected by the weather with longer journey times by road, bus, and train services.
