Sportsmen and women, who regularly use Leverhulme sports field have been given some added piece of mind, after life-saving equipment was installed at the central clubhouse.

Port Sunlight Cricket Club and Port Sunlight Rugby Club, the two clubs behind the new Bromborough Community Sports Pavilion, have recently taken possession of a new defibrillator and external weatherproof case kindly donated by Trelleborg UK.

After launching a JustGiving page and raising nearly £600, the clubs secured the donation through an anonymous parent of a junior member. As a result, money raised through the fundraising will instead be spent on training the coaches and club members in the effective use of the life saving equipment.

Glyn Jones, junior coach at the cricket club, said: "The defibrillator will be housed on the outside of the clubhouse, allowing it to be accessed easily and quickly by sportsmen and women or members of the public.

"Having such a piece of vital medical equipment within minutes of the football and rugby pitches, the cricket grounds and Eastham Country Park gives anybody who requires its use a much higher chance of making a full recovery.

"On behalf of the clubs I would like to thank Trelleborg UK for their kind and generous donation."

The equipment is due to be installed within the coming weeks and will be linked into the North West Ambulance Service network.
