Energy-saving enthusiasts look away now. One street in Wirral has turned their homes into a winter wonderland already, in the build-up to Christmas.

Residents have come together on Templemore Road in Oxton to pull together a festive lights extravaganza that can be seen from far and wide.

But far from a simple act of the showmanship, the neighbours are looking to raise money for a worthy local cause.

One of the street's residents told the Globe: "A couple of us have always gone a bit over the top with the lights. Fun and friendly competition between friends and neighbours!

"Last year with Covid our road decided to take part in the Christmas Lights Trail for St Johns Hospice in order to raise some cheer and money for a good cause. Two of our houses came first and second in the competition.

"This year about six or seven of us switched on last weekend. A few more plan to join in on Saturday to coincide with Oxton Village lights switch on."
