Heswall Hall to stage wartime concert in Remembrance week

Lilli Moore is an award winning vintage performer with a particular interest in songs from the 1940s and ‘50s - her idols are Vera Lynne and Doris Day.

Now the 30-year-old from Moreton, who has a three-year-old son Freddie, is joining forces with other vintage devotees and performers to stage Forget Me Not - A Wartime Concert Experience at Heswall Hall.

The event, to be held on the evening of Thursday, November 11, aims to recreate the sounds and feel of a WW2 concert for the troops.

There will also be sing-a-longs, a Home guard re-enactment, radio sketches, vintage DJ and Winston Churchill speeches.

“I think music has the power to bring people together like little else,” said Lilli, who has been singing professionally since she was 18.

“Look how the song ‘We’ll Meet Again’ took on a whole new resonance after the pandemic.

“I think what we have planned at the hall is going to be so evocative, really enjoyable and a great way to remember and commemorate.”

Lilli realised she had a vocal talent after singing karaoke in a pub one evening - and was promptly offered a gig by the landlord.

Now, she performs regularly up and down the country at vintage events as well as on cruise ships. She even finds time to entertain residents of care homes.

“I think people look back at the community feel we had during the war and want to try to capture it - and hopefully at Heswall Hall that’s just what we’ll do,” she added.

The Forget Me Not - A Wartime Concert Experience takes place at 7.30pm on November 11. Doors open at 6.30pm for drinks. Tickets are priced at £15 with all profits going to the Royal British Legion.

There will also be a Wartime Walk-In Experience on November 11 and November 14 each day between 1pm-4pm. Tickets are priced at £5. Visit heswallhall.co.uk
