A MERSEYRAIL worker was assaulted at a Wirral train station, police have confirmed.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to Rock Ferry station at around 10pm on Thursday (October 14) following reports of an assault against a member of staff.

Officers attended the scene and a 56-year-old man was arrested in connection to the assault and taken to custody.

A spokesperson for BTP said enquiries into this incident are ongoing.

Trains were delayed on Thursday after the 'act of disorder' including services on the Chester and Ellesmere Port line.

The 10.17pm train service from Liverpool Central to Chester ran non stop between Liverpool Central and Hooton due to the incident.

A 10.21pm service from Liverpool Central to Ellesmere Port also ran non stop between Liverpool Central and Hooton.
