A new mermaid sculpture was unveiled in Vale Park today, Friday October 15.
The mermaid was a replacement after the original was set on fire and destroyed in August 2018.
The sculpture was designed by local artist and Black Pearl Pirate, Barry Canning-Eaton and was decorated by student artists from Joesph Paxton Campus.
The inspiration behind the project was led by storyteller Cat Roberts and Carl and Rose Leckey.
The mermaid is part of New Brighton’s Mermaid Trail which is inspired by The Black Rock Mermaid, who was said to have been seen by a local sailor in the 18th century.
Black Pearl Pirate, Jan Peddie said: “The Mermaid looked amazing in the sun and so much work had gone into getting her in place.
“We hope she will stay there, and people will be able to enjoy her for a long while to come.”
