A clinic in New Brighton is offering free facials to cancer patients throughout the month of October to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Advanced Aesthetics are offering 14 free facials as part of the Kate McIver Skin annual Faceathon, a event that supports cancer patients with pampering and relaxation.

Kate McIver Skin was founded by Kate McIver, a professional skin expert, who died from secondary breast cancer aged 31.

After chemotherapy, operations and daily medication, Kate suffered side effects from the treatment which caused issues with her skin.

To combat the effects, Kate created specialist serum, Secret Weapon, to help anyone dealing with similar skin issues.

Steph Hughes from Advanced Aesthetics, a stockist of Secret Weapon, is one of the clinics taking part in the annual Faceathon.

Steph said: “All the girls who work with me in the clinic including myself have been touched by cancer whether that’s somebody who has lost a life or is still currently battling.

“So, when we were asked to take part, we jumped at the chance. It’s something that’s really close to our hearts in the clinic and we’re all really passionate about helping where we can.”

Advanced Aesthetics are offering treatments to patients including CBD facials, Manuka and Honey facials and Hydra facials.

Steph said: “It’s not much but if we can put a bit of sparkle in someone’s day and take their mind off their traumas for an hour then it’s the very least we can do.

“One of the girl’s mum in the clinic has secondary breast cancer. It’s awful.

“I also had a very close friend of mine who suffered and died very prematurely. It’s a horrific disease and it tears peoples lives a part so it’s something close to all our hearts and we are made up to be involved.

With 1 in 2 people in the UK said to have cancer, Steph said she wanted to try and give back as much as possible.

She said: “We hope we can bring women in here and create a little haven where they can forget about everything they’ve got going on for an hour while we make them feel nice and special. It’s something we’re honoured to be involved in.”

As well as receiving a free facial, patients will receive a Kate McIver Secret Weapon serum to take away.

People can nominate someone to receive a facial through Kate McIver’s Instagram by commenting on their Faceahton post.

Steph said: “I don’t know anybody’s lives who haven’t been touched by someone who may have died or is suffering from cancer.

“It’s absolutely heart wrenching so we hope we can give people a 60-minute holiday and send them out with a nice radiant glow. Anything we can do to put a smile on someone’s face.”
