Bromborough has long been one of Wirral's most popular residential areas and in more recent years, leisure and retail destinations as well.

New housing developments have seen more people moving into the area and with that comes more businesses.

The area's grocery shopping options were boosted in the late summer, with the opening of a new Lidl store on the edge of the Croft Retail Park, while Allport Road was given an upmarket bakery in form of Chatwins, with people often seen queuing out of the door for one of their treats.

So what's next for Bromborough? Here's four more businesses that will be hoping to continue to improve the local area.

JD Gym - Off New Chester Road

Sports fashion retailer JD Sports is not just the self-proclaimed 'King of Trainers', they also have 55 gymnasiums across the UK and Bromborough is their next location, set to open its doors this Autumn.

Situated at the site of the old Candy building on Old Hall Road, just off the A41, the state-of-the-art facility promises to deliver the very best fitness equipment, studios, a burn area, spacious changing rooms with saunas and a 'sprint and prowler' track, as well as free weights and other functional areas.

With other big hitters already in the area, such as the Village Gym, Everlast and Pure Gym, competition is likely to be stiff for JD.

But the new arrival is tempting punters in with a pre opening offer of £5 membership for the first month followed by a monthly fee of £19.99 with no joining fee and no contract to commit to. Limited to the first 200 places.

CA Fitness Studios - Dawpool Drive

Continuing on the health-kick front, if big gyms aren't your thing but you'd still like to improve your wellbeing in a more intimate setting, perhaps this brand new fitness studio could be the answer?

CA Fitness opened last weekend, occupying one of the long-vacated empty units on the corner of Acre Lane and Dawpool Drive, which once housed Jean & Ernie's Pet Store in the 1980s - a stone's throw from the new Stanley Gardens housing development.

Opened by personal trainer Charlotte Ann Finnigan, the studio is offering small group fitness sessions for both men and woman, covering activities like pilates and yoga and personal training sessions for groups of no more than six people.

If the idea of a large brand gym doesn't appeal to you, this community-feel offering could be the solution you're looking for.

Pina Loca Mexican Kitchen - Bromborough village

After all those calories you've burnt, it's only fair that you can put a few back on with some nice food!

Historically, Bromborough has not always been blessed with great variety on restaurants, but the introduction of the Mediterranean Kitchen - now called the Turkish BBQ - helped breath new life into Bromborough village's culinary scene.

And now there is set to be a new kid on the block.

Refit work is currently underway to create Pina Loca Mexican Kitchen on Allport Lane, in the heart of the village.

Formerly a McColl's convenience store, but best remembered as Dillons Newsagents, the new owners canvassed local residents on what type of food offering they would like to have on their doorstep and after listening to feedback, have taken the plunge to open the only Mexican restaurant in Bromborough.

Expected to open in early November, we can't wait to see if their Fajitas are up to scratch!

Burger King - Croft Retail Park

If fast food and more specifically burgers are your thing then you may be delighted to learn that Burger King is coming to the Croft Retail Park.

McDonald's has long had the hamburger monopoly over the popular shopping and leisure destination for as long as we can remember, but now it's biggest rival is arriving across the park to provide some stiff competition.

Understood to occupying the old Frankie & Benny's building, Bromborough's new Burger King will greet hungry cinema-goers as they leave the Odeon after watching the latest blockbusters.

Just don't forget to call into one of the areas many gyms the next day, if you consume too much.
