Wirral’s Viking expert, Professor Steve Harding is giving a lecture on Wirral’s Viking heritage this Thursday, October 14.
Prof Harding, who recently appeared on BBC’s Our Coast series, will be lecturing at Small Hall, United Reform Church, West Kirby from 7.30pm.
In his talk, Prof Harding will give the latest on the ancient clinker boat buried under the car park of the Railway Inn pub at Meols.
He will also discuss the scientific tests he and his colleagues have been conducting on iron objects discovered at Bebington by Wirral Archaeology, along with the Viking Age objects from Meols, and Torksey.
It will be the first lecture in the 117th season of the Deeside Lecture Society.
Prof Harding will also describe new genetic evidence with Leicester University to confirm the findings of the Wirral and West Lancashire Viking DNA project - which was published over 10 years ago showing a high proportion of Scandinavian DNA in men from old Wirral and West Lancashire families.
