A group of teenagers booted a "young" cat across a street in Woodchurch after luring it over on Wednesday, September 15.

An eyewitness, who asked not to be identified, has told the Globe of how a group of teenage boys were walking carelessly in the middle of Pemberton Road, Woodchurch before the cruel incident occurred.

At around 6.00pm, the witness was in the car with his mum dropping his daughter off when he spotted a group of around six boys dressed in black shouting to one another and walking in the middle of the road.

The witness said his mum had drove into Grasswood to make take a phone call when he saw the horrific incident unfold.

He said: “I was looking around to see what these lads were doing. They were probably between the ages of 15 and 17 and they were making a lot of noise and were messing around.

“I could see the end of Grasswood and most of them were on the far side. One of the older lads knelt down and started calling to a little black and white cat with a collar on across the road.

“I had seen this cat as we drove round the corner, and as the lad enticed it it came back into view and went over to him.

“It must have only been about 8-12 months because of its size.”

The witness said he had his car window rolled down so could hear and see what the boys were doing.

He said: “As the cat got about three foot from the lad another one of his mates ran up and booted it through the air and it landed on the other side of the road.”

The witness said the group of youths started laughing before walking towards the Meadow.

He said: “The cat came flying down past us and disappeared into someone’s garden.

“I had my daughter in the car, so I was focused on making sure she hadn’t seen anything.

“I love cats I have two myself, so it was shocking to witness.

He added: “It’s a regular thing seeing groups of lads misbehaving around here. They’re always out looking for trouble.

“It angered me but the thing that shocked me was two of the smaller lads were walking around wearing actual balaclavas in the middle of the day like it’s a normal thing.”
