Is Birkenhead really the trendiest town in the country? It is according to one research project.

As the world is beginning to open back up, many Brits are excited to explore their nearest and dearest indie coffee shops, yoga centres and more.

With this in mind, personal finance experts, Ocean Finance have compiled extensive research to uncover the top 10 trendiest UK cities and towns as well as how much it costs the average person to live there.

To uncover the UK’s real culture capital, Ocean Finance analysed 50 UK cities and towns, and ranked them on the number of yoga centres, farmers’ markets, breweries, independent cinemas, and independent coffee shops, per square mile.

Wirral Globe:

The firm's research has revealed Birkenhead as the trendiest town in the UK, scoring 231/250 points in their index.

Breaking down the research further, Birkenhead is the number one town for the number of independent coffee shops and cinemas per square mile.

It costs the average person £1,062 per month to live here which includes rent, utility bills, groceries and transport.

In second place is the culture hotspot Cambridge, which scored 227/250 points in Ocean Finance’s index.

Wirral Globe:

Well known for being home to one of the world’s most prestigious universities, Cambridge has the second most farmers’ markets per square mile.

Although, it’s one of the most expensive cities to live in, costing around £1,981 per month – almost twice as much as Birkenhead.

Edinburgh is the third trendiest town or city in the UK, scoring 203/250.

Famous for The Fringe, the world’s largest arts festival, Scotland’s capital also has the second-most indie cinemas per square mile.

If you can afford to pay an eye-watering £1,927 per month to live there, Edinburgh is the perfect place for performance lovers.
