Coronavirus cases have started to fall in Wirral, reflecting the trend across the rest of the Liverpool City Region and England.

According to Public Health England, in the seven days to July 23, the borough had a new case rate of 363.3 with 1,177 positive test results.

Although still a high number, that has fallen from a rate of 528.4 per 100,000 people seven days earlier, when 1,712 new cases were confirmed in Wirral - a drop of 535 people.

An infographic shared on Twitter by Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram shows how Covid cases rocketed from mid-June and into July before changing course.

Last week, almost every borough in the combined authority experienced a fall in new cases, with Halton remaining flat.

Wirral Globe:

Of the 315 local areas in England, 22 (7%) have seen a week-on-week rise in rates and 293 (93%) have seen a fall.

Wirral University Teaching Hospital Trust was caring for 26 coronavirus patients in hospital as of last Tuesday, figures show.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on July 20 was up from 20 on the same day the previous week.

New figures for this week will be published tomorrow.

Covid case rate list in full

The list has been calculated by the PA news agency based on Public Health England data published on July 27 on the Government’s coronavirus dashboard.

Data for the most recent four days (July 24-27) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

From left to right: name of local authority; rate of new cases in the seven days to July 23; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to July 23; rate of new cases in the seven days to July 16; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to July 16.
