POLICE are appealing for information following an incident in Birkenhead in the early hours of this morning.

At around 12.30am, reports were received that a group of around 20 youths on pedal cycles were throwing bricks and eggs at the Cool Room Bar and Platinum Bar on Conway Street.

Patrols attended but the youths had dispersed.

No injuries were reported but the outside of the premises were reported damaged.

Damage to a car parked on Conway Street was also reported.

The youths were reported to be dressed in black and wearing balaclavas.

Patrols have been stepped up in the Conway Street area and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Acting Inspector Alan McKeon said: "The behaviour we saw on Conway Street this morning has no place in our communities and we are working hard to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

"It is only through good fortune that nobody was injured and we simply will not tolerate such blatant disregard for people and property across Merseyside.

"As lockdown restrictions are eased we want people to feel safe to go out and enjoy our nightlife on Wirral and we would like to reassure the community that we are stepping up patrols in the area to help prevent similar incidents from happening again.

"Going forward, we also have a number of options where we can take to tackle such behaviour, including dispersal zones and plain clothes officers on patrol.

"Where we receive reports of anti-social behaviour we will not hesitate to take action.

"If you were in the Conway Street area and witnessed the incident this morning, or have captured any footage on mobile phone or dashcam them please contact us, directly, or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

"Any information you have could be vital to our enquiries."
