A PRESS conference will take place at Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port plant tomorrow morning (July 6).

Although the carmaker has not provided any information regarding the nature of the announcement, it is expected to confirm that the future of the North Road plant has been secured.

Following lengthy discussions with ministers over the provision of Government support, an electric vehicle is set to be produced at the factory.

The plant employs around 800 workers.

Parent company Stellantis confirmed earlier this year that it was considering "different scenarios" for the future of the site, including the potential closure of the factory, adding that discussions with UK officials had been "productive but not conclusive".

It is understood that the company has been seeking financial incentives from the Government, along with commitments on the post-Brexit trade of auto parts including batteries, in order to make electric vehicles in Ellesmere Port.
