PUPILS from The Mosslands School in Wallasey have taken part in an awareness day looking at issues relating to anti-social behaviour (ASB), road safety, electric scooters, scrambler bikes and county lines drug dealing.

Year 10s took part in the community day event, which was organised by Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MRFS).

Assemblies were delivered by MFRS who presented footage of car crashes and talked about the role of the emergency services.

Schools officers from Merseyside Police highlighted the dangers of off-road bikes and the impact that these can have on local communities.

The pupils moved between five different interactive stations:

  • A crashed car rig, with props - students were asked by MFRS to discuss what they think caused the crash
  • A Fire engine – demonstration of equipment used to cut people out of car crashes
  • A Police traffic car – demonstration of a defibrillator and their role at a car crash
  • Pupils were breathalysed and Field Impairment Tested (FIT) as if they were a potential drink driver
  • Pupils engaged in a response test on a special device designed to analyse their reactions.

Sergeant Andrew Schofield, Local Policing said: "The event today, alongside our partners, offers a fantastic opportunity to highlight the issues of ASB, county lines, the dangers of off-road bikes and the impact they have on the local communities.

"We want to make sure important messages about the risks and dangers of all of these issues are learnt."

He added: "We know the nuisance that off-road bikes can cause within our communities, and we are constantly working with our partner agencies and local schools to eradicate the problem.

"However, we can’t do this alone and the support of parents and guardians is vital when it comes to educating young people.

"We hope that the information the students have taken away today will deter them from using off-road bikes in the future and encourages them to highlight the dangers to others."

John Maddox, from Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, said: "MFRS works closely with our partners to support this initiative with the ultimate goal of making the communities of Merseyside safer and stronger.

"We take a proactive approach to educating all road users on road safety."
