AN investigation will take place after a blaze took hold at a scrap yard in Rock Ferry this afternoon.
Six fires engines tackled the blaze after being alerted shortly before 3.10pm on Saturday.
Firefighters found a number of cars ablaze in the scrap yard, which sent smoke billowing into the skies above.
Nearby residents and businesses were told to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke from the fire.
The fire was, in the main, extinguished by shortly after 4pm, with crews carrying out damping down operations.
Merseyside Police were also in attendance to manage the outer cordon.
A Merseyside Fire and Rescue spokesperson said the "investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out in due course".
