THE results of Wirral's local elections will be announced later today.
Voters went to the polls on Thursday.
Prior to the vote, Wirral Council was in no overall control, meaning no one party had a majority.
Labour had 32 of Wirral’s 66 councillors, meaning just two gains for the party would see it retake the majority it lost in 2019.
On the other hand, should the party lose seats the position of council leader Janette Williamson could be under threat.
Voting closed at 10pm on Thursday.
In normal circumstances, this would have been followed by an anxious wait for candidates, as results were announced.
However, because of the current coronavirus restrictions, verification of results is taking place this morning with the count starting no earlier than 1.30pm.
The Globe will have live rolling coverage online as results are announced.
