Just one patient is being treated for Coronavirus in Wirral Hospitals, latest figures show.

NHS England releases national bed occupancy data on a weekly basis.

In today's report it shows that up to May 4, Wirral University Teaching hospital had one ward bed in use by a patient with Coronavirus.

Last week the Trust had no Covid patients at all for the first time since the NHS report started on August 1, 2020.

The single inpatient was not using a mechanical ventilation bed.

Clatterbridge Cancer Centre did have one patient with Covid-19 in its care last week, but that is no longer the case.

At its peak, Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals had 279 Covid patients occupying beds on January 22.

The encouraging data has been aided by the efficient rollout of the local vaccination programme and a low weekly infection rate.

According to Public Health England, in the seven days to May 1, Wirral had a new case rate of 10.8 per 100,000 people with 35 new infections.

That's down from a rate of 15.1 per 100,000 people seven days earlier, when 49 people tested positive for the virus in the borough.
