THREE teenagers sustained cuts and bruises when they were assaulted and racially abused during an 'unprovoked' incident in Birkenhead.

A CCTV appeal has been launched following the shocking incident on Thursday, which took place on Thursday, April 8.

At around 8.30pm that night the three males, aged 18, 17 and 19, were walking in a park near to Claughton Road when they were confronted by a large group of youths.

The three teenagers were then chased by the group, racially abused and assaulted.

The teenagers attempted to enter a shop on Claughton Road but were followed into the shop where the assault continued.

Damage was also caused to a window during the incident.

The teenagers were not seriously injured but suffered cuts and bruising to their faces and bodies.

Detectives have now issued CCTV images of four people they would like to speak to in connection with the incident (see below).

Detective Inspector Matt Caton said: “This was an unprovoked assault on three teenagers by a much larger group of youths.

"They were also subjected to racist comments.

"Thankfully none of them were seriously injured but clearly this behaviour is unacceptable.

"We would like to speak to the four males pictured as we believe they may have information which is vital to our investigation.

"Anyone who recognises the males or can assist our enquiries is asked to get in touch as soon as possible."
